Thought leadership:

Special Economic Zones

17 July 2019

The end game through sun set clause

Union Budget 2019, saw a slew of policies to spur growth and investments and if implemented well will definitely contribute to the growth of the Indian economy in the years to come.

What was notable was the absence of any narrative on extension of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) benefits. This virtually closes the door on the duty benefits that would accrue to a company that sets up operation as a unit in the SEZ beyond 31.03.2020. While indirect tax advantages would continue, corporate tax benefits would cease to exist for any entity that is unable to set up on or before 31.03.2020.

If any entity is planning “Destination India” for expanding their operations in India or to set their footprint in India, there is a window of the next ten months to enter the SEZ Unit format and to benefit from the advantages that are available to them.

We have prepared a snapshot of the various facets of SEZ.

We hope you find it insightful.
